I decided to splurge on a new pair of running shoes today. Mind you, I'm NOT a big exerciser, but force myself to do that 1.5 miles 2-3x a week between May and October. I've never been a big 'go to the gym' girl - I'd MUCH prefer to lounge in a beach chair with a book or magazine - or better yet, take a nap on my towel. But, I'm not as young as I used to be *sigh* so I decided to join the gym at work to maintain my exercise routine (...routine - HA!) year-round. I've had the gym membership since February and how many times have I been? ONCE. I ran a mile on the treadmill and thought I would die. Regardless, I need a pair of sneaks for work and a pair for home....I don't want to be lugging sneaks back and forth....a total hassle. SOOOOOO with only reading on these beauties and without trying them on and never wearing New Balance before, but know it as the brand my Dad always wore for running, I ordered a pair of 805 in white and blue. These get great reviews from people that I'd consider 'real runners' based on their reviews, so do any of you lovely Blog Followers / Readers use these? How do you like / not like?
......And for the new book, I mentioned that after I finished "Stolen Innocence" about Elissa Wall and her FLDS experience, I was going to read Jon Krakauer's "Under the Banner of Heaven" about the murder of a woman and her 15-month old daughter by her brother-in-law because he was told by God to kill them. I know more about Mormons - LDS and FLDS - now than I ever wanted to know. It is an interesting read about these people - but I definitely need some mindless summer books after this one. I'm planning to go back to the posts you lovely Blog Followers / Readers left for me a couple month back. If you've since found some other good reads - please feel free to share!
love the shoes!
ReplyDeleteHope you get much use & wear out of the new sneakers! If you want mindless fun books try the confessions of a shopaholic series by Sophia Kinsale. I've read them all (before the movie came out which I haven't seen). They are great and would be perfect for the beach. Have fun & soak up some (sunblock protected) FI rays for me!
ReplyDeleteoh, you are good!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been exercing at all...
I'm starting to get desperate to lose my baby weight.
Can't wait to have nice weather so I can take the baby with me for a walk every day.
Happy Mother's day!
Ilena- GREAT! I actually have some Shopaholic books that my grandmother got for me from her Senior Center. Which is the first book?? I have some but likely not all. AND for me with five skin-cancers to date...always SPF. I'll say HELLO to the FI sand for you. :-)
ReplyDeleteJBH: Baby weight: haha - it took me 3 weeks to lose 28 of the 35 I gained....and 24 months to shed the last 7 lbs! I had to exercise to lose the last ones, the first 28 came off with not having time to eat myself! I lived on coffee and cheerios....
Hehe, I think I can relate to your exercise routine, except I haven't gotten to the point where I'm actually doing what I'm suppose to. :P BUT, I DO have New Balance work out shoes and they're really easy on your feet. :) You just gotta make sure you get the right socks because I realized mine are more comfy with slightly thicker socks. I hope they work out. :D
ReplyDeleteHa!
ReplyDeleteI still have to read "Under the banner of heaven" - people keep telling me to read that one.
(Isn't it amazing what a couple of books like that will do? I feel like I'm a friggin FLDS dictionary).
I love this book for an easy read, and I suggest it to everyone:
"Good in Bed" by Jennifer Weiner
(typically I dont' like 'chic lit' but she's an amazing writer)
Read it last summer and it was an interesting, quick summer read -
"The Summer of Naked Swimming Parties" by Jessica Anya Blau
And so weird, and you'd have to order it on amazon for sure, but so interesting (a weird, religious mystery starring circus folk):
"tattoo girl" by Brooke Stevens
I love love love New Balance!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting book...I'll have to check it out.
As for a chic lit try the Shopaholic series :)
I'm glad to know that some of you are New Balance girls and are happy with them.
ReplyDeleteI've already gathered the Shopaholic copies I have and I think I have teh first one "Confessions"??
Muppet: Jennifer Weiner sounds familiar--dd she write "In her shoes"? I'll have to Google her...
I didn't even see this post thursday and I'm on the computer allllllll the time. I hope the shoes work out for you! they look cute and comfy. Book sound pretty heavy, but very interesting.
