Memory Quilt: Baby Quilt from Dad's Clothes

A sad story...my sister's friend's brother was terminally ill just as his first child was due to be born. He didn't live long enough to meet his son, but his sister gathered up a few pieces of his clothes and asked that we make a baby quilt from them for his newborn son. We only had 6 pieces of clothes with which to work, but that proved to be ok. And we chose a bright baby flannel for the outer border and back. This will be a great blanket for the baby and widow to have now and for the future. A sad story - but something memorable for his family.

  1. I like the different arrangement of the stripes and how you incorporated the collars and some of the tags, which makes it more interesting.

  2. That is a very sad story, but I think it's wonderful that you've helped put together something that this little boy will treasure for the rest of his life. Did you shed any tears in the process of making this quilt? I'm such a softie, I probably would have been sitting there crying and sewing at the same time.

  4. Oh...I love this. I want to do something similar with my fathers things that passed away a long time ago.

You did a great job and his child will grow knowing that the essence of his father will surround him and keep him warm.

  6. It was a hard quilt to make knowing the circumstances, but then the positives - this little boy will always have a piece of his father close to him. :-)
